There are many tools that are helpful when designing networks. This list is not comprehensive. It is a short list in alphabetic order of some software tools that the author has used or that network designers and engineers have recommended to the author. Some of the products are probably more related to network monitoring than network design, but don't forget that two important steps in the top-down network design methodology are characterizing the existing network and testing the new network. For both those steps, network monitoring tools are extremely helpful. The list does not represent an official endorsement by the author or Cisco Press.
